Tessolve Embedded Systems Takes Advantage of Partnerships between Tessolve and Semiconductors Manufacturers.

Tessolve designs and tests complex integrated circuits for major semiconductor companies. In return, the latter bring their help in the development of embedded systems by Tessolve’s Embedded Systems division, creating turnkey module-specific products.

Tessolve is a group of 1700 people, wherein the Indian group Hero acquired a large stake, since 2016. Specialized in the conception and test of complex integrated circuits, the company is destined to join the list of the big names of the semiconductor industry. “Tessolve designs components on which their clients affix their brand”, summarizes David Mudard, sales manager of Tessolve’s Embedded Systems division of 100 people.

The conception of specific products

Indeed, in 2016, Tessolve expanded its activities by acquiring TES Electronic Solutions India, a specialist in the conception of embedded systems and multimedia systems and expert in image processing, audio/video processing as well as display solutions and wireless technologies for demanding industries (aeronautic, automotive, robotic, medical …). “By joining Tessolve and TES India, re-christened as Tessolve Embedded Systems, was allowed to benefit from strong support coming from semiconductor manufacturers”, indicates M.Mudard.

Example: “With Tessolve being licensed by Qualcomm, the integration of Qualcomm processors in embedded systems is obviously eased”, underlines the sales manager. Overall, besides the embedded system activity (Tessolve Embedded Systems), Tessolve also focuses on the design of integrated circuits and correlative tests, including more than 25 test equipments of semiconductors. The proximity with semiconductor manufacturers contributes to ease the conception of module for the embedded segment. Moreover, Tessolve Embedded Systems offers turnkey modules architectured around i.MX6 and I.MX8 (NXP) and Snapdragon (Qualcomm) processors. However, the most important activity of this segment is the conception of specific products (tablet for industrials, automotive …, screens for aeronautic, automotive, robotic …, AI-based processing units and IoT platforms …) destined to specific uses (aeronautic, automotive, medical, industrial). Tessolve Embedded Systems hence is leading in support for Video On Demand systems, reading units, encoding/decoding 4K videos embedded in planes, and more. “We are deeply involved in the InFlight Entertainment (IFE)”, notes David Mudard.

From Thales Micro to Tessolve Embedded Systems through TES Electronic

→In 2004, Thales Micro became TES Electronic Solutions. In 2011, TES Electronic Solutions was partially dismantled: AsteelFlash acquired Langon and Lacroix Electronics’ plant, part of the design offices.
The Malay factory of TES was also sold. TES Electronic then only included units based in Germany, India and the United Kingdom.

→David Mudard joined TES Electronic in 2012 with the mission to dynamize the French market. In 2016, TES Electronic India, the main unit of the group, joined Tessolve, a company created in 2004, wherein the Indian group Hero (more than 30.000 people, more than 5 billion dollars in yearly turnover) purchased a major stake in 2016. Tessolve was then put under Hero Electronix, the electronic branch of Hero.

→Today, Tessolve leans on 1700 people, 100 of those working in Tessolve Embedded Systems. Tessolve’s main activity consists in the design and test of semiconductors. Tessolve Embedded Systems continues its historical activity in the development of embedded systems and multimedia, with expertise in display, image processing, audio and video, wireless communication destined to demanding industries (aeronautic, automotive, medical, etc.). With support from microprocessors and other complex integrated circuits manufacturers for whom Tessolve works for: Qualcomm, NXP, TI, STMicroelectronics, Renesas, and more.

Increasing demand in IoT

“The demand for small electronic cards purposed for the Internet Of Things increases”, announces M.Mudard. Currently, it represents about 20% of Tessolve’s embedded systems activity’s turnover. In this case too, the relationships built with semiconductor and sensor manufacturers constitute a valuable aid. “This allows us to integrate the most innovative components at the best price available”, underlines the sales manager. Conversely, conscious of the importance of the IoT market, semiconductor manufacturers are looking for design references for this market, with conceptions “being used to showcase the component functionalities”. Even better, Tessolve Embedded Systems designs electronic cards architectured around processors equipped with peripheral dispositives dedicated to an application (pressure sensors and others). Then, based on those design references and/or those cards, Tessolve realizes the embedded system needs of its clients. Ensembles where those very cards, reshaped to be industrialized and adapted to the targeted market constraints, be it for Europe, the U.S or the Asian continent.
Finally, Tessolve Embedded Systems is also involved in the display where it notably operates with several French distributors which supply it with screens and components destined to the automotive sector.
